You should never throw a mobile phone into the trash. Just like computers, they are made of materials that are not good for the environment once they are in landfills. Plus, they are not biodegradable, so it will take thousands of years for them to break down. Some mobile phone retailers will give you a credit toward your new phone if you are willing to trade in your old one. They know how to recycle it properly, and by offering this service, they can make sure that the environment stays safe. Plus, sometimes they are able to refurbish the phone and sell it at a discount to other users, so someone can benefit from it.

Sell It on the Internet

You might be able to make more money off of your phone if you sell it on the Internet. For instance, there is a high demand for Motorola Android phones. You can use Amazon, eBay, or any other auction site to get the job done.

Use It as a Toy

Kids love to pretend that they are grown up, so why not re-purpose your old cell phone as a toy. Just take out the battery so you don’t have to worry about them calling 911, and voila: you have a cheap toy that your kids will love.

There are lots of ways that you can recycle your old cell phone – creative ones, too. But whatever you do, don’t throw it in the trash. Everyone needs to work together to keep the world a safe place.

It is only when people switch over from a desktop computer to a laptop do they realize how convenient the desktop computer is. The computer remains stable and one can adjust the seat in any manner one wants to enjoy a comfortable experience.

On the other hand, the fact that the laptop can be moved around means that finding the right position can become a very difficult task. How many times have you moved all over the house trying to find the most comfortable position for your laptop? Trying to copy the positions that you see in laptop advertisements never seem to help.

You realize that these positions are designed primarily to maximize the visibility of the laptop device. Trying to sit on the stairs and having the laptop adjacent to you will leave you with a strained back and arms in a very short period of time.

Another factor that affects the usage of laptop is the frequent change in the workplace. If you had a single table where you regularly use your laptop, you can easily adjust to the right position without any difficulty. However, many individuals make the mistake of purposefully shifting the position without any regard for stability.

The end result is that the individual never feels comfortable when using the device. This is particularly true when you are working on spreadsheets or word processing software applications. Using a laptop to watch a movie or listen to songs is not a difficult task because it does not require any activity on the laptop curser.

What are Routers Used for?

Routers perform an important function for computers and the internet. A router is a computer device. It forwards data packets across computer networks. A data packet is a basic unit of communication over a digital network. A packet is also called a datagram, a segment, a block, a cell or a frame.

A router can also block unauthorized access to a network via the use of a firewall. A firewall is set up to protect a computer from any unwanted access, such as that from hackers.

If you think of all the data being transferred across the internet as traffic, a router is the device used to direct all of that traffic. Without a router, the internet traffic would have no idea where to go. Ingoing and outgoing cables plugeed into the router help in this data trafficking process. Data packets travel into the router from one cable and are then shown where to go by the router and then directed on their way via the outgoing cable.

The most common types of routers are those found in the home or small office. More commercial and sophisticated routers include enterprise routers and core routers. Enterprise routers connect large business or ISP networks. Core routers forward data at very high speeds along optical fiber lines which are the backbone to the internet.

Routers have many applications. They can be used to exchange information over the internet or even be used to protect a network from potential malicious behaviour. Without routers, the millions of pieces of information travelling on the internet super highway would have no direction.

“Hot Spots” is the term used for a place where the user can access free wireless internet. Sometimes it may be the computer owner getting access at a certain spot in their apartment. Mainly it encompasses businesses that offer the privilege of complimentary internet. Yet how safe are they?

In today’s struggling economy, people are trying to find more ways to save money. Internet plans are one of the luxuries given up since there are numerous establishments to go to if a person needed to use the internet. Restaurants and bistros have increased their revenue by offering the option of free internet. Some have special accounts set up with wireless providers to get a stable connection, such as Starbucks has with AT&T. Panera Bread Company bistro has a contractor they get their internet account through. Even as the connection might be stable, all information is still sent over an unsecured connection and leaves the user liable to getting a virus. There is also the chance for a hacker to get access to someone else’s files and information. There are ways to protect a computer from these actions.

Always create a password for your computer and laptop so no one can use it without your permission.
Get a virus protection software added so you can stop any that try to corrupt the system.
Don’t check secure bank information or anything confidential while using an unsecured connection.

Keep in mind, everything on that kind of connection is open for those experienced enough to look.

Does Technology Create or Solve Social Issues?

With the whole world spending more and more time online, the question arises: does technology create or cure social issues in today’s society? Everyone has different answers and facts to back them up. Some psychologists believe being plugged in all the time can create a disassociate attitude to the real world. Children become anit social to those around them. Instead of being outside playing with other children, they’re inside playing video games. Instead of making human contact and creating friendships that way, they are in online chat rooms meeting people that could possibly turn out to be a pervert. Experts say there is also a link between technology and childhood obesity. If the child is constantly sitting down playing on a device, there is no time for him to be involved in sports or staying active some other way. Closeness with family can become an issue, especially with teenagers whose main focus is teting all day long and ignoring their parents.

Still, many professionals state technology is helping social issues today. There are countless ways to stay in contact with people nowadays through social networks like Facebook and Twitter. Many kids have dozens of connections on Facebook with people in their school. It can bring a group of kids closer when they have the access to keep in contact with each other. Even more so now that any cell phone with internet access has a Facebook or Twitter application that is free to add. The internet is another way for those who want to speak out on certain topics the freedom to do so. One of the big things to participate in is starting up a blog. There are websites that allow someone to set up a site for free. Kids write about whatever they feel and, like other social networks, their friends can join and post their own content.

Whether it causes or cures the social issues in today’s youth, technology is continuing to evolve to higher standards.
